Field Study is an integral part of our program.
From local trips to the fire station to day-long excursions around the Mid-Atlantic region, our students enjoy the rich history, culture, and natural world beyond our campus.
Early Childhood
Frequent off-campus trips in Early Childhood support the curriculum and include visits to Shaw Orchard, Sharp’s Farm Tour, The Maryland School of Ballet and Modern Dance, Broom’s Bloom Dairy, Goucher College, Indian Echo Caverns, the National Zoo , Susquehanna Orchards, the National Aquarium, the Arena Club, Walter’s Museum of Art, the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Eden Mill Nature Center, and Baugher’s Market. The destinations may vary from year to year.
Grades 1-3
Field Study in the Lower School supports the curriculum with trips to Amish country, local farms, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, the National Aquarium, the Strausburg Train Museum, and Annapolis.
Grades 4-5
In Grades 4 and 5, Field Study is linked directly to the science and history curricula. Trips to the University of Pennsylvania Museum and Franklin Institute in Philadelphia highlight the year. Trips to Eden Mill and trips on the Chesapeake Bay with the Living Classrooms Foundation nurture scientific curiosity. The Walters Art Gallery provides a rich cultural experience for the students.
Middle School
Our Middle School students visit sites ranging from NASA's Goddard Space Center to restaurants where Spanish and Mandaring are spoken to Baltimore's Visual Arts Museum. Offsite team-building/leadership challenges are included in the sixth and seventh grade years, and each grade level has one overnight trip. Some field experiences are related to curriculum, some are designed for experiential learning, and all provide opportunities that cannot be replicated in the classroom.
